When Food Attacks!

Many, many years ago, I stopped assigning moral value to food. Nommy noms are no longer "good" or "bad," they are just food.  Cakes aren't sinful, candy bars aren't naughty, carrot sticks aren't chaste, lettuce doesn't make me worthy of love and praise. I eat food and it is just food, and my life is infinitely happier that way.  As I always say, the only thing you should ever feel guilty about eating is babies.

Since I've chosen to surround myself with people who feel the same for so long, it is now really foreign to me when I go visit food blogs full of amazing, delicious-looking pictures like those at Willow Bird Baking or I Am Baker and people in the comments talk about how dangerous the food is.  My mind automatically pictures little cake truffle gangs, or confectioneries with bombs strapped to their bodies.

Really, the only dangers inherent to food that I am willing to acknowledge are a) allergies, b) spoilage/poisoning and/or c) inhaling it into your lungs by accident, which I tend to do way too often for my own liking.

No really, that is all I am willing to acknowledge. Humor blarg. Serious debate is prohibited. As is the "D" word...

  1. ROFLMAO! The voice my inner dialogue attributed to that adorable truffle is beyond amusing. Love!

  2. Oh...that truffle is too cute for me to be scared of him.

  3. OMG, I love you. And you should make that truffle your profile picture on either the blarg FB or your regular FB.

  4. Food is not evil as much as people make it out to be. I might put this picture on my fridge when I need a little reminder. You rock!

  6. Congrats on the Blog of Note.

You're hilarious! I particularily loved the cotton candy tree incident. I tend to assume that everyone steals all of my good ideas, because they're super awesome ideas. So...y'know...

  7. I'm so glad I found you on Blog of Note. I lived this way for many years and enjoyed a healthy reltionship with food, as food, not a moral statement. I'm working on getting back to the place. Thanks for the sainity and laughs!

  8. I showed your blarg to the boyfriend person, and he laughed! This is a big deal so I had to tell you. I had more to this comment, but the internet ate it and this is all I could remember.

  10. hello there!

first of all, CONGRATS on becoming blogger of note. I'm happy that you're what I call a DOODLER. Cos, well, u DOODLE. And I do too! And unlike others who draw all sorts of picasso art with their photoshop, u draw awesome, funtastic cartoons which I myself DO from time to time on my blog. =DDD

Can't wait to read more of your blog posts.

    Congrats again.

    From a fellow doodler.

P.S: doodler is starting to sound weird.

  14. Can I just say that the fact you can choose "llama" for a reaction makes this the best blarg ever?

PS - Have you ever checked out the statue of the Madre Patria in Lima, Peru? She has a llama crown (animal) sitting on her head instead of the llama crown (flame) that was intended.

  16. I love, love, LOVE this blog entry. This is something I'm currently struggling with - trying to stop seeing food as good and bad etc and just enjoying it. Moderation is everything, I shouldn't deprive myself of chocolate or something I enjoy just because someone else says I should.

  17. I. Love. This. Blog.

...and I'm a first time reader. Frankly, I was waiting for a blog like this to show up on Blogs of Note - I mean, I admire certain blogs that were mentioned, and as a wannabe graphic designer, I loved some of the creative layouts that certain illustrators have made for themselves.

But this... this is the whole package I was looking for. Brilliant words ( I like to read, but some illustrators barely write, let alone try to crack a joke), awesome artwork, AND a comfortable layout that suits and goes with everything you post. It's like a perfect home for your material, honestly - and that's coming from someone who's totally obsessed with blogger interior design, haha. So yeah, I REALLY admire this place.

Based on your insistence of what it is though, shouldn't this go on Blargs of Note? Haha - lame joke I know, don't kill me. But yeah, I just wanna thank you for putting out such a fantastic blog - I totally can't wait to browse further into it. :D

  24. Yeap. Food is food and people should enjoy it. Though I also know that food is better when I don't over eat it. But I think light food is rubbish, if you want to eat something good, eat real food. I've been terrorizing all my family and friends, so they wouldn't eat light version of food, and I am finally little getting through :D

  26. Finally, I see someone declaring wholeheartedly in favor of food!

  27. I agree in moderation and to not obsess over food, but to say "food is food" is extremely shortsighted. Is a twinkie equal to fresh vegetables? Hardly. If food is food, why have the rates of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and obesity shot up at precisely the same time we have changed the way we eat?

  33. As the author of "I Like Cheese" I think I may have to sue for trademark infringement. Or perhaps we can settle this with an traditional duel.

We both eat cheese until one of us pukes. The puker has to rename his/her blog. Or "blarg" as the case may be, and publicly pay homage to the winner as "The Awesome Person Who Kicked My Fanny In A Cheese Eating Contest And Who Is Totally More Awesome Than Me."

I'm sure that's how the tradition goes. Or should, anyway :)
