Comment Marauder

It has been pointed out to me that I am strange in my habit of reading comments on other people's postings.  I do this for pieces of art, blog posts, videos, facebook pages... pretty much anywhere someone posts something to solicit comments, I am going to read the comments.  To me, the reason for sharing things on the internet is to interact with other people and as such, the interaction is part of the experience.

The response that I get when I tell people this is usually, "Well, I read my comments!"

Yes, I read your comments too. I want to hear what people say about things that I take the time to read, for the most part. Comments are really interesting, often funny.  There are whole websites dedicated to seeing people's replies (for Facebook, at least).  So yes, usually, I click and read everything that everyone says to my friends.  I even go back when I have nothing better to do and check if there are more comments.

Okay, fine, maybe I am just a creepy stalker...

And hey guys, my friend, Pat, is looking for support for a short movie he is trying to make.  If you would be interested in helping out a beginning director with his horror movie, please check out this link.

  1. I like doing that too! I get discouraged though when the comments start getting higher and higher in numbers. Then I'll read a couple or look for a comment that the author has responded too.

By the way: 1040 followers! That's an awesome steak with awesome sauce on top...and mushrooms. Mmmm.

  2. I do the exact same thing...and I have been told that I am a total creeper, but I say, if you post what you thing on the internet, expect people to read it! I mostly like to read comments, though, because I just think people are fascinating and sometimes say the most clever, and sometimes, the most absurd, things... it's all very intersting, really.

  3. And so is my spelling "interesting."

  4. I'm the same way! I comment on EVERYTHING I find. I like to jump into other peoples' conversations randomly.

  5. Damn it! I expected there to be a bi-gillion comments here, especially being the Blog of Note and all.

Anyhoo, I agree, comments can be the icing on the cake and sometimes the cake itself.

  6. I like to comment as much as I can, and I love reading other people's comments. Like you said, it's all about interacting with other people, and people's reactions are just as fun and interesting as the original postings!

  7. I love reading comments too. So that probably means you're not just a creepy stalker. Unless that means I'm a creepy stalker too...Oh well.

  8. I usually read them, but I hesitate to comment...except now. Guess I'm still that awkward kid trying to break into the conversation!

  9. i read other people's comments all the time... i think that you're supposed to, right? i mean they're meant for discussion! how can you discuss something you don't read??? just sayin'

  10. @Breathe Chick- I do the same. I always feel like a big dork, myself, when I comment where I don't know everyone well. There will be a post on why, eventually... but yeah, I am actually quite shy and reserved until I know people well, and then I am generally just a spaz.

And I also feel like a jerk for not answering to everyone... though again, it is way easier for me to do so on Facebook.

  13. Likely you do not "do" "awards". But I bestow on you anyway. Come get it if you want. Copy/paste and no need to comply with the meme. Just happy to maybe send more people your way.

  14. I read comments when I'm about to reply to something posted, makes it a bit awkward when you say something that someone already said, ten comments ahead of you. My favorite thing to do is to respond to someone's off the wall reply and start up a conversation completely off topic with that person and go back and forth with some random stranger on my actual friend's wall. You should try it! :) Also, thanks SO much for the failpost which IS fantastic!! I shall follow that website religiously now! :)

  17. I often find myself skipping over the comments...it helps that I dont have a facebook!
EMbarassingly enough, if a blog post is boring (which your never are) I'll find myself only looking at the comments to find out what the post was about...

  18. i actually read all the comments too, sometimes they are better than the article

  21. I love reading the comments, especially on controversial topics where people get super crazy. Regarding interrupting FB conversations - I tend to get caught up in the excitement and take it just one step too far. There is a fine line between being funny and being the jerkface interloper.

  22. Omg.. Comment stalking is like that annoying song, "This Is The Song That Never Ends!" You keep stalking and stalking and stalking, well not me personally but people, LIKE YOU! ;) I refer to my stalking simply as spell checking. It's amazing to me how many people, GROWN UPS, can't spell or at the very least hit the spell check! Holy hell, how much easier can it get?? Stalk on sister!

  23. I am the same way, I enjoy reading comments people post, even if I wasn't part of the initial conversation. That's why I like to read them though, to see how ideas and conversations develop. Without commments, there would really only be one-way communication with blogging. So, we are one in the same!

  24. I dont know what to say. This is definitely one of the better blogs Ive read. Youre so insightful, have so much real stuff to bring to the table. I hope that more people read this and get what I got from it: chills. Great job and great blog. I cant wait to read more, keep em comin!

  25. I got your email. :) Maybe Mr. Spam does have a thing against witches. Much like homicidal maniacs, we're just like everyone else. ;)

  26. Most of my comments are better than my posts.
What? Any publicity is good publicity.

  27. I would never have guessed reading the comments was a creepy stalker thing. It is normal and should be expected.

  28. *beaming* And now I don't feel quite so alien! I enjoy/endorse/encourage comment stalking - I was grounded from Facebook so now I had to resort to pestering the general public on, say, news websites or the ones that pop up when I mis-type a URL (which is more frequent than I care to admit). It's possible I should get a hobby, but that would imply motivation. I'll settle down, now.

    I am a comment stalker

People on the internet are funny, anyway, whether they're educated or...well, not. Conversations are hilarious. I don't have enough comments on mine to stalk :P But I can often be found reading/commenting on/reading comments from other blogs.
